What Does a 750-Seat Hall Really Hold? Layouts Explained

How many guests can a 750-seat hall hold? Seating layouts explained

The same hall holds very different numbers depending on how you set it. Here is how event planners read a capacity figure, and how to plan a 750-seat hall for your event.

Theatre layout

Rows of chairs facing the stage with aisles: the layout that gives a hall its headline number. It suits weddings, receptions, conferences, launches, award nights and any event where everyone faces the stage. AVM Convention Centre's Grand Hall seats 750 in this layout.

Classroom layout

Rows of tables with chairs on one side, facing the stage. Each guest needs roughly twice the floor area of theatre seating, so a 750-seat theatre hall typically becomes a 350–450-seat classroom. Use it for training, exams, workshops and note-taking conferences.

Cluster or cabaret layout

Round tables with chairs on two-thirds of the circumference so nobody has their back to the stage. Roughly 40–50 per cent of the theatre figure. Ideal for award dinners, team events and interactive conferences.

Banquet layout

Full rounds of 8 or 10 for seated meals. Similar density to cluster seating. In Chennai, most weddings use a separate dining hall in sittings instead (AVM's dining hall seats 200 per sitting), which keeps the main hall free for the ceremony and the stage.

Reception or floating

Standing guests with cocktail tables and a few seats. The figure can exceed theatre capacity, but fire-safety, comfort and air-conditioning load decide the real number. Ask the venue rather than assuming.

Planning guest flow for large weddings

A 750-seat hall with a 200-seat dining hall handles weddings of 1,000 or more invitees because guests arrive in waves: some are in the hall, some dining, some in the forecourt taking photographs. Plan dining sittings around the muhurtham and the reception line, and brief the caterer on timing.

Planning a conference day

Keynotes and plenaries run theatre-style for the full delegate count; break-outs can use classroom or cluster set-ups. Schedule lunch in staggered sittings and keep tea service near, not inside, the hall so sessions restart on time.

Ask for the number in your layout

Every venue should be able to give you a seated figure for the exact layout you want, and a photo of the hall set that way. For AVM Convention Centre, tell us your format in the enquiry form and we will confirm the count.
